Prayer

Father, thank You for the gift of this day. Thank You for the gift of faith and the grace you've given us to respond to You. Thank You for revealing Yourself in sacred Scripture. Thank You for revealing Yourself in your Son. Help us to stay focused in this time of prayer. Please grant us the grace to hear Your voice and respond. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 1 (New King James Bible)

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Reflect

Scripture Reading: Psalm 1 (New Jerusalem Bible)

1 How blessed is anyone who rejects the advice of the wicked and does not take a stand in the path that sinners tread, nor a seat in company with cynics, 2 but who delights in the law of Yahweh and murmurs his law day and night. 3 Such a one is like a tree planted near streams; it bears fruit in season and its leaves never wither, and every project succeeds. 4 How different the wicked, how different! Just like chaff blown around by the wind 5 the wicked will not stand firm at the Judgement nor sinners in the gathering of the upright. 6 For Yahweh watches over the path of the upright, but the path of the wicked is doomed.

Reflect

Scripture Reading: Psalm 1 (New Living Translation)

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. 4 But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. 6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

Respond

Prayer

Lord, Thank You for Your goodness and grace. Thank You for what You have highlighted to us today. Help us to rest in the truth of Your words, and plant them in our hearts securely. In Jesus’ name we pray…

Lord’s Prayer (Pray the words that Jesus taught us to pray)

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name;

your kingdom come;

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For yours is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.
