Call to Worship (Hear God call you to worship through His Word) - Psalm 23

Psalm 23 (KJV) 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the gift of this day. Thank You for revealing Yourself in Your Son and in sacred Scripture. Help us to focus and stay focused on You this morning during this time of prayer. Please grant us the grace to hear Your voice and respond to your call. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 6 (English Standard Version)

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. 2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. 3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? 4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? 6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

Reflect

Scripture Reading: Psalm 6 (New Jerusalem Bible)

1 Yahweh, let your rebuke to me not be in anger, your punishment not in the heat of wrath. 2 Have pity on me, Yahweh, for I am fading away. Heal me, Yahweh, my bones are shaken, 3 my spirit is shaken to its very depths. But you, Yahweh … how long? 4 Yahweh, relent and save my life rescue me because of your faithful love, 5 for in death there is no remembrance of you; who could sing your praises in Sheol? 6 I am worn out with groaning, every night I drench my pillow and soak my bed with tears. 7 My eyes waste away with vexation. Arrogance from all my foes! 8 Away from me, all evil-doers! For Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping, 9 Yahweh has heard my pleading. Yahweh will accept my prayer. 10 Let all my enemies be put to confusion, shaken to their depths, let them retreat in sudden confusion.

Reflect

Scripture Reading: Psalm 6 (New Living Translation)

1 O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage. 2 Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. 3 I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me? 4 Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love. 5 For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave? 6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears. 7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies. 8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer. 10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified. May they suddenly turn back in shame.

Respond

Prayer

Lord, Thank You for Your goodness and grace. Thank You for your rescue. Thank You for what You have highlighted to us today. Help us to rest in the truth of Your words, and plant them in our hearts securely. In Jesus’ name we pray…

Lord’s Prayer (Pray the words that Jesus taught us to pray)

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name;

your kingdom come;

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For yours is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.
